Description
Newton's signature. Stone from the King's School, Grantham, on which the young pupil Isaac Newton (1642-1727) cut his name, about 1652. Newton was born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, and was schooled at the grammar school in Grantham. After moving to Cambridge, Newton rarely returned to Woolsthorpe, but did so in 1665-7 to escape the bubonic plague. During this time he formulated his calculus system and postulated his theory of universal gravitation.
