Description
Combined reflection and dark nebula, optical image. North is at the top. The blue reflection nebula at lower centre is Cederblad (Ced) 201. It does not emit light of its own but reflects light from the bright star within it and it appears blue due to blue light being scattered more than red. The dark nebula (VdB 152), extending from Ced 201 upwards, is part of the same cloud of gas and dust, but lacks an illuminating star. The dust here is so dense that it has blocked the majority of light shining from the stars behind it. The blue light has been dispersed the most, making the stars seen through it appear red. This nebula complex lies in the constellation Cepheus.
