Description
Brandberg Mountain seen from space. View of the western Namib Desert, Africa, seen from Shuttle Endeavour during Mission STS-54. Just below centre frame is the dark circle of Namibia's Brandberg Mountain (2630 metres), the remnant of a large volcano. A large cloud and fog bank covers the sea at bottom left, but stops abruptly a few miles inland. Only a few scattered clouds are seen over the desert. A few dry river courses may be made out close to the coast, these are evidence of seasonal flash flooding. Shuttle Mission STS-54 flew on 13-19 January 1993, with the primary task of deploying NASA's TDRS-6 communications satellite.
