Description
Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Polyxenid millipede (bark dweller). Note the dense body trichomes (Polyxenus sp.). Polyxenus is a genus of millipede, known as the bristly millipede, in the family Polyxenidae. It is a millipede found in many areas of Europe and North America. It is a unique genus of millipedes that are covered with detachable bristles. The bristles can entangle ants and spiders that attack them thus thwarting an attack. Magnification x11 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
