Description
Medieval lynchets. Cattle grazing on limestone downland near Worth Matravers in Dorset, UK. The terraces seen here are known as strip lynchets, a type of medieval agricultural terracing. A lynchet is a bank of earth that builds up on the downslope of a field that has been ploughed for a long period of time.
