Description
Martin Rodbell (1925-1998), US biochemist. Rodbell received his doctorate from the University of Washington in 1954. He worked at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 1856 until his retirement in 1994. He worked at the National Heart Institute, later becoming Scientific Director (1985 to 1989) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He shared the 1994 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Alfred G. Gilman for their discovery of G-proteins and their role in signal transduction in cells. This photograph is from the November 1994 cover of Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), the journal of the institute he directed.
