Description
Mars' north polar cap. Satellite image showing the icy surface of Mars' north polar cap. The ice on Mars is frozen Carbon Dioxide. At Mars' North Pole is a dome of icy layers ranging up to 2 kilometres thick, similar to Earth's ice caps in Greenland and Antarctica. Imaged by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) satellite.
