Description
John Macready (1887-1979, left) and Oakley Kelly (1891-1966, right), US test pilots. On the 5th October 1922 Macready and Kelly set a new world endurance record when they flew for a total of 35 hours, 18 minutes and 30 seconds. In 1923 they set achieved three firsts with one flight. Their flight from New York to California was the first non-stop coast-to-coast flight as well as setting a new single cross-country flight distance record. During the flight Macready also made the first in-flight engine repair. Photographed in 1923.
