Description
Apollo 12 lunar module (first of 2 images). Assembly of the Intrepid (LM-6), the lunar module used for the Apollo 12 mission, the second manned mission to land on the Moon. LM-6 is being lowered onto the landing gear deployment fixture to have its landing gear attached. Apollo 12 was launched on 14 November 1969 with astronauts Charles Conrad, Richard Gordon & Alan Bean aboard. Conrad & Bean landed LM-6 on the Moon in the Ocean of Storms on 19 November 1969, whilst Gordon stayed in orbit. Conrad & Bean deployed instruments and collected rocks before taking off and meeting with Gordon's spacecraft. The astronauts returned to Earth on 24 November 1969. (See also S360/060).
