Description
Lunar crater Clavius at sunrise. North is at right. This crater is one of the largest on the Moon. It is 225 kilometres in diameter, with numerous smaller craters in and around it. These include the craters Rutherfurd (upper left) and Porter (lower left) on the crater rim. The two largest craters in the interior are Clavius C and Clavius D, both over 20 kilometres across. Clavius was formed more than 3 billion years ago. This image, taken from Souni, Cyprus, with a 356mm reflector, was obtained on 19 April 2013.
