Description
Light bulb. Illustration of an early electric light bulb designed by Thomas Alva Edison in 1880. Edison's design consisted of a carbon filament contained in a vacuum within a sealed glass bulb. By passing an electric current through it, he could heat the filament until it glowed brightly. Edison had invented the light bulb in 1879 after investing $50,000 and a year of his time in the project.
