Description
Leo Kanner (1894-1981), Austrian psychiatrist and doctor. Kanner is considered the world's first child psychiatrist. He emigrated to the USA in 1924. In 1930, he established the world's first child psychiatry service, at John Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. In 1943, he published a groundbreaking paper on autism that would lay the foundations for later study of the condition. He retired in 1959. Photographed in 1955.
