Description
Lake Titicaca. Coloured satellite view of Lake Titicaca, on the border between Peru and Bolivia. Titicaca is the highest major lake in the world, its surface is 3812 metres above sea level. With a length of 209 km and a surface area of 8300 square Km, it is also the world's twentieth largest lake. Its mean depth is 100 metres, 278 metres being the deepest point. Lake Titicaca rests in the middle of the Andes mountains, at the northern end of the Altiplano region. The snow-covered mountains at top right are in the Cordillera Real range. The data for this image were gathered by a Landsat satellite.
