Lake Titicaca. Photograph of Lake Titicaca, taken from the International Space Station (ISS). Located on the border between Peru and Bolivia, Titicaca is the highest major lake in the world; its surface is 3812 metres above sea level. With a length of 209 kilometres and a surface area of 8300 square kilometres, it is also the world's twentieth largest lake. It is 278 metres deep at its deepest point. Lake Titicaca rests in the middle of the Andes mountains, at the northern end of the Altiplano region. The snow-covered mountains at top right are in the Cordillera Real range.
