Landsat image of the Turfan Depression (grey at bottom) in western China, showing large areas (red) of vegetation. At top the Bogda Shan Mountains complex is visible. It belongs to the larger group known as Tien Shan (the Celestial Mountains) which extends along the border between China, Kirgiziya and Kazakhstan. The round area at bottom right is a large sand sea.
