Description
End of Mission STS-58. Shuttle Columbia rolls along the runway at Edwards Air force Base, California, at the end of Shuttle Mission STS-58. Columbia's drag parachute is seen almost fully deployed. The parachute reduces the landing run required by the Shuttle, and provides greater lateral stability in cross-winds. Mission STS-58 flew on 18 October to 1 November 1993, and carried the second Spacelab Life Sciences module, SLS-2, in its payload bay.
