Description
Kidney cancer. X-ray of the abdomen of a 57 year old man with cancer of the kidney. The malignant (cancerous) tumour is seen as a bright white shadow directly in front of the spine at upper centre. Kidney cancers may spread (metastasis) to other parts of the body via the blood or lymph systems. Treatment is with removal of the kidney, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or immune therapy. Kidney cancer is most common in men over 50 years of age, although it can affect anyone. Family history of the disease and smoking are the main risk factors.
