Description
John Wrottesley (1798-1867), British astronomer. Wrottesley was one of the founding members of the Astronomical Society of London (1820), which became the Royal Astronomical Society in 1831. He was awarded its Gold Medal in 1839 for his work on star catalogues, and served as its President (1841-1843). In 1841, he inherited his father's title and became the 2nd Baron Wrottesley. He was also President of the Royal Society (1854-1858).
