Description
John Thomas Smith (1766-1833), British antiquarian and engraver. Smith, who trained as a sculptor and artist, later become Keeper of Prints at the British Museum from 1816. His works included 'Antiquities of London and its Environs' (1807), 'Antiquities of Westminster' (1807), 'The Streets of London' (1815), 'Nollekens and his Times' (1829), 'Cries of London' (1839), and 'Antiquarian Ramble in the Streets of London' (1846). Artwork from 'Illustrations of the Literary History of the Eighteenth Century', an 8-volume work published between 1817 and 1858 by English printer and antiquarian John Nichols and his son John Bowyer Nichols.
