Description
John Perry (1850-1920), Irish engineer. Perry's early work was as assistant to Lord Kelvin at the University of Glasgow. He was later professor of mechanical engineering at Finsbury Technical College. In the late 1870s, he worked at the Imperial College of Engineering in Tokyo, Japan. His work included studies of earthquakes and designs for seismographs. Perry was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1885. He was President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers in 1900, and President of the Physical Society of London from 1906 to 1908.
