Description
John Nichols (1745-1826), British printer, author, magazine editor and antiquarian. Nichols was the editor of 'The Gentleman's Magazine' from 1788 until his death. He helped produce the 1783 edition of the Domesday Book. Nichols's works include the nine-volume 'The Literary Anecdotes of the Eighteenth Century' (1812-1815) and 'History and Antiquities of the County of Leicester' (1795-1815). His works were continued by his son and grandson. 1825 artwork from 'Illustrations of the Literary History of the Eighteenth Century', an 8-volume work published between 1817 and 1858 by Nichols and his son John Bowyer Nichols.
