John Ives (1751-1776), British antiquarian. Ives was able to pursue his interests in antiquities as a collector due to his father's wealth. He was elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (1771) and Fellow of the Royal Society (1773). He wrote an unpublished history of Lothingland. Ives was made an officer extraordinary at the College of Arms in October 1774, but died 15 months later from consumption in January 1776. Artwork from 'Illustrations of the Literary History of the Eighteenth Century', an 8-volume work published between 1817 and 1858 by English printer and antiquarian John Nichols and his son John Bowyer Nichols.
