Description
Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), German astronomer and mathematician, artwork. The inscription around the portrait gives an alternative spelling of the Latin form of his name, Iohannes Keplerus, and refers to him as an Austrian mathematician. Kepler spent the years 1612 to 1630 in Linz, Austria. Kepler devised the three fundamental laws of planetary motion. These laws were based on detailed observations of the planets made by Tycho Brahe and himself. This artwork was a frontispiece portrait in a 'Complete Works' collection of Kepler's writings.
