Jean Marie Joseph Coutelle (1748-1835), colonel and commander of the first military balloon observation unit in 1794. Le Compagne d'Aerostiers" was created by King Louis XVI on 2 April 1794. Many aeronauts were trained in the use of four balloons. In May and June 1794, numerous observations by Coutelle of enemy positions helped to win several battles.
