Description
Japanese fighting spiders. Man collecting female Argiope sp. spiders that he has bred for fighting at the annual Kumo Gassen event held in Kajiki, Japan. Insect fighting is common in Japan and China. The spiders are specially trained and are fed a special diet to make them strong. The Kumo Gassen event is Japan's most famous spider-fighting contest, with a long unbroken tradition dating back four hundred years. Photographed on the island of Kyosho, Japan.
