Description
Interacting galaxies in HCG 90, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. These galaxies form part of Hickson Compact Group 90 (HCG 90). They are: NGC 7173 (upper left), NGC 7174 (centre right) and NGC 7176 (lower right). NGC 7173 and NGC 7176 are elliptical galaxies. NGC 7174 is a spiral galaxy that has been ripped apart by its interactions with the other two galaxies. The galaxies are 100 million light years distant, in the constellation of Piscis Austrinus. This optical image was obtained in May 2006 by Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).
