Description
Insulin injection for type 1 diabetes. Carer preparing an insulin injection for a 6-year-old boy with type 1 diabetes. This condition is also known as diabetes mellitus type 1, insulin-dependent diabetes, and juvenile diabetes. In this condition, the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin to regulate the metabolism of the sugar glucose, and insulin injections are required to prevent blood sugar levels rising to dangerous levels. This patient's diet and blood sugar levels are closely monitored, and insulin is injected four to six times a day. Photographed in the USA.
