Description
Indian camp during the Klondike Gold Rush. Early 20th-century artwork of an encampment of indigenous people in the Klondike region of north-western Canada during and following the Klondike Gold Rush. The discovery of gold in the region led to an influx of thousands of prospectors in the period 1896 to 1899. The local Han people (an Alaskan Athabascan tribe) suffered and many died when they were moved into a reserve to make room for the gold prospectors. Artwork from the 25th volume (first period of 1900) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
