Description
Homo erectus, artwork. Homo erectus is the most widespread and longest-surviving of all the fossil hominids. Its geographical spread included north and east Africa, Europe, Indonesia and China, where it lived between 1 and 2 million years ago. This scene is based on evidence from the Zhoukoudian site, China, where fossils have been found dating to between 750,000 and 200,000 years ago. It is not clear to what extent Homo erectus actually cooked and lived in caves.
