Description
Holtz electrostatic induction generator. 19th-century illustration of the electrostatic induction generator invented in 1865 by German physicist Wilhelm Holtz (1836-1913). Induction generators (also called 'influence machines') produced electric charge by electrostatic induction. A combination of moving plates, drums, or belts were used to redistribute electric charge. Such generators also use a high voltage and low but continuous electric current. This illustration is from 'Physique Populaire' (Emile Desbeaux, 1891).
