Description
HMS Challenger laboratory. Artwork of one of the laboratories on board the survey ship HMS Challenger. This scientific expedition, organised by the Royal Society which installed extensive scientific equipment on the ship, spent four years (1872-1876) surveying the world's oceans. The expedition included both a photographer and an official artist, John James Wild (1812-1900), who drew this artwork.
