Description
Running dog. High-speed photographic sequence of a running dog (Canis familiaris). The sequence was made by the British-American photographer Eadweard James Muybridge (1830-1904). The action runs from left to right and is seen both from the side (top two rows) and the back (at bottom). Muybridge pioneered the use of high-speed photography and employed ingenious techniques to analyse animal and human locomotion. He began his work on high- speed photography when he was commissioned to discover whether galloping horses have all of their feet off the ground at certain times. He proved that they did.
