Description
Hibiscus flower pollination. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen grains (small balls, lower centre) on the pistil of a Hibiscus sp. flower. Pollen grains are the male sex cells of a flowering plant, and the pistil is the female reproductive structure of a flower. When a pollen grain lands on a pistil, it can burrow down through it to the ovary, where it fertilises the female sex cell (ovum). Magnification unknown.
