Description
Hammerkop (Scopus umbretta). The hammerkop is found in all wetland habitats in sub-saharan Africa, Madagascar and southwest Arabia. Hammerkops are wading birds and their food includes fish, frogs, rodents and similar small animals. The hammerkop nest is a huge haystack-like construction, almost 2 metres wide, which is reused each year. Photographed in the Zimanga private game reserve, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa
