Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) preening. Griffon vultures are scavenger birds with a wingspan of between 230 and 265 centimetres. They are native to mountainous areas of the Mediterranean, Africa and Asia, and feed mainly on the carcasses of large mammals. Photographed in the Gorge du Verdon, France.
