Description
Gray mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus) in a tree. Also known as the lesser mouse lemur, it is found in western and southern Madagascar. It is one of the smallest primates with a combined body and tail length of 25 centimetres. Almost entirely arboreal (tree-dwelling), it feeds mainly on insects, with large eyes helping it to see at night. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. Photographed in the Berenty Reserve, Madagascar.
