Description
Grand Canyon of Greenland, 3-D radar image taken by plane during NASA's Operation Icebridge in August 2013. This is thought to be the largest terrestrial canyon in the world. It measures 750 kilometres long, 800 metres deep and 10 kilometres wide. By comparison, the Grand Canyon in Arizona measures 446 kilometres in length. It was formed four millions years ago by the action of water erosion. It is entirely covered by the Greenland ice sheet which is up to 3 kilometres thick.
