In the front row from left to right are German chemist Otto Hahn (1879-1968), German physicist Max Born (1882-1970), German physicist Rudolph Ladenburg (1883-1952), German physicist Robert Pohl (1884-1976), and German physicist Fritz Reiche (1883-1969). Their wives are in the back row. Otto Hahn was awarded for 1944 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of the fission of heavy nuclei, which resulted in the atomic bomb. Born shared the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics with Walther Bothe for his work on quantum mechanics and interpreting the quantum wavefunction statistically. Photographed in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in 1925.
