Description
German rocket engineers at Fort Bliss, Texas, USA, in 1946, following Operation Paperclip. This military operation brought German scientists from Europe to the USA in the closing stages and aftermath of World War II. These 104 rocket engineers were the core personnel from the Peenemunde rocket research centre, where the V-2 rocket had been developed. Their director, Wernher von Braun (1912-1977), is 6th from left in the front row (wearing a dark suit). Wernher von Braun would later design the rockets used in the Apollo program to reach the Moon.
