Description
George Dolland (1774-1852), British optician and lens maker. George Dolland constructed precise optical instruments used in astronomy, navigation and geodesy (earth measurements). In 1834, he and Peter Barlow (1776-1862) invented a lens, called the Barlow lens, that improved the focal length of telescopes. This lens was placed in between the telescope lens and the eyepiece and doubled the magnification, without compromising the quality of the image seen.
