Description
Andromeda galaxy and the Moon. Composite image showing the Andromeda galaxy (M31) and the Moon. This image was created to show both objects at their relative angular sizes in the night sky. M31 has a very low surface brightness, and only the very centre is visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy point of light. If our eyes were more sensitive, the galaxy would be seen as six times wider than a full Moon. These visible light images were made on different dates using the Burrell Schmidt telescope at Kitt Peak, Arizona.
