Description
Frederick Lowe Soper (1893-1977), US epidemiologist. Soper obtained his doctorate from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Most of his career was spent with the Rockefeller Foundation, and he worked on eradicating various diseases. He worked on hookworm disease (1920 to 1927), on yellow fever and malaria in Brazil (1928 to 1942), and on typhus fever and malaria in the Mediterranean in World War II. After the Second World War, he served as director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau from 1947 to 1959. This photograph was taken in 1928 when Soper was with the Rockefeller Foundation's International Division in Brazil.
