Description
Fossil sponge (Vauxia gracilenta) from the Burgess Shale. These are a common group of sponges with distinct bush-like form. The Burgess Shale was deposited during the Cambrian Period (55 to 485 million years ago), and is famous for its detailed preservation, warranting the term lagerstatten deposit. Field of view length: 36 millimetres.
