Description
Fighting zebras. Two male Burchell's zebras (Equus burchelli) fighting. These wild horses live in herds of several hundred individuals, composed of many smaller family units. Each unit is led by a dominant male (stallion), who defends his breeding females from other invading stallions. Burchell's zebras are found in the open forests and savannas of eastern and southern Africa, feeding on grass, leaves and shoots. They are an important prey animal for large carnivores such as lions, although they can outrun them over long distances. Photographed in the Mkuzi Game Reserve, South Africa.
