Description
Farming on a volcano. Crops growing in soil on the flanks of a volcano. Volcanic soils are often very fertile, producing good harvests because they are rich in minerals from volcanic ash. This volcano is Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily. It stands 3323 metres tall and is the largest active volcano in Europe. Its continual activity is mild, with relatively gentle lava flows and degassing of vapours, mostly posing little threat to farming.
