Faraday and Brande. Photograph of Michael Faraday (1791-1867) and Willaim Brande (1788-1866), English scientists. Faraday was a brilliant experimental physicist and chemist who formulated the laws of electrolysis and created the first electric motor. Brande was a chemist who wrote many popular books on chemistry. Both Faraday and Brande were professors of chemistry at the Royal Institution in London. Brande succeeded Davy as professor in 1813 while Faraday took the specially-created Fullerian Chair of Chemistry in 1833.
