Description
Illustration of extrasolar planet OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb. This planet orbits the star OGLE-2005-BLG-390L which is over 21,000 light years from Earth. It is thought to be a rocky world roughly five times the Earth's mass with a temperature of -220 degrees Celsius. Its orbit around the star is the equivalent of between Mars and Jupiter. It was discovered in 2005 by gravitational microlensing where the planet travelling in front of its parent star causes a small increase in the intensity of magnified light.
