Description
External ventricular drain. Frontal X-ray of the head of a 72-year-old man who has undergone neurosurgery (an operation on the brain). The X-ray shows the positioning of an external ventricular drain on the right side of his head, draining excess fluid from around his brain following the operation. This prevents elevated intracranial pressure due to a build up of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The drain is visible as a white line from upper left down to lower left. For arrow markers showing the position of the drain, see image C038/8833.
