Description
Electrostatics experiment. 19th-century illustration of an electrostatics experiment as described by British physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867). Such experiments involved the use of objects on insulating threads being attracted and repulsed by an electric charge, usually a form a static electricity. Faraday's experiments on static electricity took place in the early 1830s, and he concluded that static electricity was the same phenomenon as seen in batteries and in 'animal electricity'. This illustration is from 'Physique Populaire' (Emile Desbeaux, 1891).
