Description
A microwave transmitter at left (black box) is transmitting microwaves towards the metal sheet. The microwaves are reflected off the metal into a microwave receiver at right. Microwaves are electromagnetic waves with wavelengths between 30 centimetres and 1 millimetre. The wavelength used in this experiment was 3 centimetres. Microwaves have a number of uses. They are used in broadcasting, as they pass through the Earth's atmosphere more easily and with less interference than longer wavelengths, and in computing, for wireless local area networks (LANS), as well as in microwave ovens.
